How to testify before the Alaska legislature

State page·Verified 2026-07-10

The mechanics of testifying are in the general guide. This page covers what is specific to Alaska.

How Alaska does it

Alaska has a built-out, longstanding remote-testimony system unusual among states. Its Legislative Information Office network, with more than 22 locations statewide, plus a dedicated teleconference network, lets residents anywhere in Alaska testify without traveling to Juneau. Sign up to testify, or submit written testimony, through the testify.akleg.gov portal, or in person or by phone through your nearest LIO. If testifying by phone, call in 5-10 minutes before the hearing starts to join the queue, then state your full name, location, and any organizational affiliation once unmuted.

Deadlines and numbers

Spoken testimony commonly runs about 3 minutes in person and 2 minutes by phone, though the chair can adjust this depending on how many people want to speak. No exact hard cutoff for testify.akleg.gov sign-up is confirmed. Treat it as same-day, but check the portal directly. The 2026 session convenes the third Tuesday in January under a 121-day constitutional limit.
