How to testify before the Kansas legislature

State page·Verified 2026-07-10

The mechanics of testifying are in the general guide. This page covers what is specific to Kansas.

How Kansas does it

Kansas does not run a single online sign-up portal for testimony. To testify on a bill, contact the committee assistant or secretary listed on that committee's page at kslegislature.gov, give the bill number, and say whether you want to appear in person or remotely. Many committees allow virtual testimony over video, but this is arranged case by case, not guaranteed for every committee or bill. If added to the docket, you speak when called. Written testimony is accepted as an alternative or supplement and is often easier to arrange.

Deadlines and numbers

Written testimony, submitted as a PDF, is typically due about 24 hours before the hearing, though this varies by committee. Spoken-testimony time limits are set per committee rather than standardized statewide, so confirm both the deadline and the time limit with the committee assistant when you sign up.
